I create electronic music and sound art.
I live and work in Sheffield.
In 2018 I re-started my music and art practice after a 20 year break!
I'm currently experimenting and releasing electronic music as Autophon. I also produce a range of non-music work - sound art, sculpture, instrument making and installations.
My influences are broad across many genres of music and art - electronica, classsical, pop, rock, alternative, modernism, minimalism, the avant garde. I'm also inspired by history and landscape.
Music creation has always been a big part of my life from playing the violin and guitar and being in bands as a kid to sound installation and film soundtrack work on my fine art degree at Sheffield Hallam University (1992-1995). I then had a modicum of success with a two month artist residency at Sheffield University Sound Studios in 1998 and a 4 track vinyl EP release on the Toshoklabs label in 1999.
In 2000 I got a job in web design and music creation took a back seat but never went away. I've constantly dabbled since then until the last couple of years when I've slowly built up the pace again.
I use Ableton Live on my MacBook but I'm open to expanding and will be re-integrating violin and guitar playing, live recording, and instrument making again soon.
Here's to future sounds...
