The summer is nearly upon us! Holidays and increased childcare! So I'm taking a summer break from music and writing. I will probably find some time to continue making music and writing over the next 6-8 weeks but I won't set myself any goals, the pressure is off!
Over the last 4 years at times I've suffered with creative block and "over-working" tracks, so much so that I wasn't getting any music out into the world and wasn't really moving forward at all. These are my current techniques for dealing with those problems.
My current music creation setup is centred around Ableton Live on my MacBook Pro, but this is a fairly recent development for me.
I've just finished reading Overlap by Sean McCabe. It's a book about how to transition from your current day job to making a living from something you enjoy doing more. This is what I am currently trying to do with my music.
I've just uploaded my entry into the Songlines Remix Competition. The competition, run by Songlines music magazine and PRS Foundation, is an opportunity for UK music creators to remix one of David Attenborough’s sound recordings from his critically acclaimed album, My Field Recordings From Across The Planet.
Last June (2018) I finally decided to start putting my music out into the world and I uploaded my first tracks to Soundcloud. Using Soundcloud gave me a focus and a reason to get work finished, a way to start building an online portfolio and get feedback.
